The SAT in New Jersey — nobody schedules it for you.

Unlike Texas, Michigan, Florida or New York City, New Jersey runs no statewide funded SAT School Day program. Individual districts decide independently whether to offer one, and there is no state reimbursement mechanism behind that decision the way House Bill 3 works in Texas.
Practically, this means most New Jersey students register for a national weekend administration and pay the standard fee. Two consequences follow:

The calendar is entirely yours

You must proactively register for weekend administrations through College Board. There is no state-mandated test day that automatically enrolls you.

Ask your specific district

Some local school districts may independently choose to offer an in-school SAT day, but this is a local decision, not a state policy. Always verify with your guidance office.

State aid does not use your score

New Jersey’s flagship affordability program, the Garden State Guarantee, covers tuition and mandatory fees at in-state public four-year institutions — but only in a student’s third and fourth years, which is unusual, and it is income-based rather than merit-based. For new students the threshold is household AGI of $0–$65,000 for a $0 net tuition price.

One point worth stating clearly, because the older version is still circulating: the higher tiers were discontinued for new students from 2025- 26. Families with AGI between $65,001 and $100,000 who read about tiered awards are reading about a program that now applies only to students who already held one.
NJ STARS, the separate community-college program, uses class rank in the top 15% — again, not a test score.
So New Jersey mirrors New York: no state money is attached to your SAT score. The score does its work on admissions, and specifically on the out-of-state and selective-private applications that New Jersey students make at high volume — including into Florida, Texas and Georgia, where a score is either required or worth real money.
