When to start
Students typically join us from August for May exams, which works for a well-taught school course that needs exam-skill sharpening. For subjects where the school course is weak, or where a student is self-studying the AP, starting in the fall produces materially better outcomes.
How AP scores work, briefly
AP exams are scored 1 to 5. A 3 is officially “qualified,” most credit-granting policies sit at 4 or 5, and the most selective institutions often grant placement rather than credit, or nothing at all. Scores are released in July following the May administration.
Credit policies vary by institution and by subject, sometimes considerably, so the score you need depends on where you are applying.

When are AP exams held?
AP exams are administered across a two-week window in May, with a late-testing window for students with conflicts. Exact dates and subject order are published by the College Board each year, so please check the current-year schedule, as subject dates move.
Are AP exams digital now?
Many AP subjects have moved to digital or hybrid administration in Bluebook, but the format varies by subject and continues to change. Confirm your specific subject’s format for the current exam cycle before building a practice plan around it.
How many AP exams should I take?
There is no universal number. Selective admissions readers look at rigor relative to what your school offers — five APs at a school that offers six reads very differently from five at a school that offers twenty-five. Taking more APs than you can score well in is a net negative on both the transcript and the score report.
Can you help with a self-studied AP?
Yes, and this is one of the situations where tutoring makes the largest difference, because there is no school course carrying the content. Self-study students should plan for a full year.
Do you teach the class or prepare for the exam?
Both, and the ratio depends on the diagnostic. A student with a strong school course needs exam skill and FRQ structure. A student whose course is behind needs content first.
