Who Should Take AP Biology?

Most students take AP Biology in their junior or senior year, after completing a foundational high school biology course, though some schools open it up to sophomores. It’s rare (and generally not advisable) to take it as a freshman, because the course assumes you already understand basic cell structure, introductory genetics, and core biological vocabulary before diving into the depth AP Bio demands.

You’ll get the most value out of AP Biology if you:

AP Biology Exam Date 2027

The 2027 AP Precalculus Exam date has not been announced yet. It’s worth knowing, though, that the College Board has confirmed the AP Precalculus Course and Exam Description will be updated in summer 2026 with minor clarifications for the 2026–27 school year. Course content will not change, but the number of multiple-choice questions, the timing of free-response questions 1 and 2, and the timing of related sections will be updated starting with the May 2027 exam. Students studying for 2027 and beyond should double-check the updated exam format once the College Board releases it, rather than assuming the current section breakdown carries over unchanged.
