IB MYP Classes Online for Grades 8, 9 and 10
Your child comes home with a 5 in Criterion B and a 7 in Criterion D, and there is no percentage, no class average and no obvious action to take. That is not a reporting failure, the MYP is deliberately criterion-referenced, but it does leave most parents unable to tell whether their child is on track.
QFS MYP classes teach the subject content and the assessment logic together, so that a student knows what a Criterion C task is asking for before they attempt it, and a parent knows what the grade actually means.

What MYP assessment is really measuring
Every MYP subject is assessed against four criteria, A to D, each scored 1–8 and each testing something different. In Mathematics, for example, Criterion A is knowing and understanding, B is investigating patterns, C is communicating, and D is applying mathematics in real-world contexts.
A student can be excellent at the mathematics and still score poorly in C, because C is not testing the mathematics — it is testing whether the reasoning was communicated in a form a reader can follow.

This is why “he knows the material but the grade is low” is such a common MYP complaint, and why more content revision does not fix it. The fix is teaching the criterion.
Criterion levels also do not convert cleanly to percentages. The four scores are combined and mapped to a 1–7 grade using published boundaries — which is why a small movement in one criterion can shift the final grade more than parents expect.

Personal Project support
The Personal Project runs through Grade 10 and is the MYP’s capstone: a student-chosen project with a defined goal, a process journal, a product or outcome, and a report assessed against four criteria. It is also the first genuinely independent long-form work most students have ever done, and the process journal is not the product but it is where marks are usually lost.

MYP to DP — the transition parents worry about most
The jump from Grade 10 MYP to Grade 11 DP is the steepest in the programme, and it is not primarily a content jump.
Criteria to examinations
Assessment shifts from criteria to examinations. MYP has no external examination in most subjects for most students. The DP is examined at the end of two years, and exam technique becomes a scored skill in its own right.

MYP extended Mathematics is a foundation for Analysis & Approaches HL, not a preview of it.
Independent workload becomes structural
Six subjects, six IAs, the EE, TOK and CAS running simultaneously.
Subject choice becomes irreversible
A student who has not taken extended Mathematics in MYP will find AA HL difficult to enter in Grade 11.
What to do in Grade 9 and 10
Take extended Mathematics if HL Mathematics or any science HL is a possibility; build written communication deliberately, because it is examined in almost every DP subject; and use the Personal Project as practice for independent research rather than treating it as a hoop.

How parents stay informed
Fortnightly written progress reports, criterion-level feedback on every assessed task, attendance and topic coverage visible on the Online Classroom Portal, and a termly call with the subject tutor. The purpose is that you never have to interpret a school report unaided again.

What is a good MYP score?
Criterion levels of 6–8 indicate strong performance; the combined 1–7 grade is what schools report and what feeds DP readiness conversations. More useful than the number is the pattern: consistent 6s across all four criteria is a healthier signal than an 8 in A and a 3 in C.
My child scores well in tests but poorly in MYP assessments. Why?
Almost always Criterion C or B — communication or investigation. Those criteria test process and presentation of reasoning, not recall. It is a teachable gap and usually a fast one to close.
Should my child take standard or extended Mathematics in MYP?
If there is any chance of Mathematics AA HL, a science HL, or an engineering or economics pathway later, take extended. Moving up later is much harder than moving down.
Do you coach MYP for the Personal Project?
Yes — goal setting, process journal discipline and report structure, against the published criteria. The student does the project.
Is MYP tutoring necessary, or is it too early?
It is not necessary for every student. It is worth it when there is a specific gap — a criterion that is consistently weak, a subject the school teaches thinly, or a Grade 10 student heading into HL subjects they are not yet prepared for. We will say so at the assessment if we do not think classes are needed yet.
Do you teach the MYP eAssessment?
We support students whose schools enter them for MYP eAssessment (on-screen examinations and ePortfolios) in Grade 10. Confirm with your school which route it uses, as many IB World Schools in India do not enter students for eAssessment at all.
